Climate change–induced urban heat islands are a growing problem around the world. Autodesk Forma, a cloud-based platform with AI-powered tools, helps architects mitigate urban heat islands in the design process. Working with the Forma team, I hired a writer and coordinated interviews with Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei, the director of the Office of Heat Response and Mitigation for the city of Phoenix, and an assistant professor at Arizona State University to discuss solutions.
